How to use the EMI and Loan Calculator

  1. Enter the loan amount, the annual interest rate and the tenure in years or months.
  2. Read the monthly EMI, total interest and total amount payable.
  3. Open the amortisation schedule to see how each payment splits into principal and interest.
  4. Download the schedule as CSV if you want to keep it.

How the EMI is calculated

The calculator uses the standard reducing-balance formula EMI = P × r × (1 + r)n ÷ ((1 + r)n − 1), where P is the loan amount, r the monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n the number of monthly instalments. With a 0% rate the EMI is simply P ÷ n.

Results assume a fixed rate for the whole tenure and payments at the end of each month. Processing fees, insurance, taxes and rate changes on floating-rate loans are not included, and lenders may round differently, so treat the result as an estimate and confirm with your lender.

Frequently asked questions

Why is most of my early EMI interest?
Interest is charged on the outstanding balance, which is highest at the start. As the balance falls, a growing share of each EMI repays the principal. The schedule shows this month by month.
Does a longer tenure reduce the total cost?
No. A longer tenure lowers the monthly EMI but increases the total interest you pay over the life of the loan.
Can I use it for car, home and personal loans?
Yes, for any loan with a fixed interest rate and equal monthly instalments.
