Hash Generator

Generate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes and HMACs of text or files.

Runs in your browser. Your input is processed on your device and is not uploaded to our server.

AlgorithmHash

MD5 and SHA-1 are not secure for passwords or signatures. Use them for checksums only.

How to use the Hash Generator

  1. Type text or choose a file.
  2. Optionally enter an HMAC key.
  3. Copy the hash in hex or Base64.

SHA-2 hashes use the browser’s Web Crypto API; MD5 uses a built-in implementation. MD5 and SHA-1 are cryptographically broken: use them only for checksums and compatibility, never for passwords or signatures. To store passwords, use a slow password hashing algorithm such as Argon2id or bcrypt on your server, not a plain hash.

Frequently asked questions

Can a hash be reversed?
Not directly, but short or common inputs can be found by guessing, which is why plain hashes must not be used for passwords.
