How to use the Retirement Savings Calculator

  1. Enter your current age, retirement age and life expectancy.
  2. Enter today’s monthly expenses, expected inflation and return rates.
  3. Add your current savings to see the corpus needed and the monthly investment required.

Method

  1. Monthly expenses are inflated to your retirement age.
  2. The corpus needed is the present value, at retirement, of those inflation-rising expenses until life expectancy, discounted at the post-retirement return.
  3. Your current savings are grown at the pre-retirement return.
  4. The shortfall gives the monthly investment needed, using the future value of a monthly series.

All rates are assumptions you control. Results are estimates for planning, not financial advice.

Frequently asked questions

Why does inflation matter so much?
Over decades, even moderate inflation multiplies the cost of living, which greatly increases the corpus you need.
